1. First Thing’s First: Maintain a Healthy Diet
Maintaining a healthy diet is your first step to getting beautiful, strong hair. That’s why whenever our body suffers from nutrient deficiency it starts shedding hair. So, it’s important to eat healthy to maintain healthy hair growth.
These are some of the foods and nutrients to keep in your diet to keep your hair healthy-
- Eggs: Eggs are one of the best sources of protein and biotin. Both of these nutrients promote healthy hair growth. Eggs are also packed with vitamin A & E and other nutrients that play an important role in hair growth and the overall health of our skin, nails, and hair.
- Foods containing Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids are basically a group of nutrients that provide great health benefits. They are great for hair too. Some of the foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids are salmon, tuna, sardines, chia seeds, flaxseeds, walnuts, etc.

Honestly speaking from my experience, a few years back, I would hate to apply oil in my hair but then I finally started oiling my hair after it got severely damaged due to several issues. - When it comes to applying oil, remember that less is more! Don’t apply any more oil than you need to massage your scalp properly and cover your hair strands.

I personally like natural hair masks and they suit my hair pretty well. I believe hair masks have played a huge role in reducing my hair fall and also repairing the damage. You can use ready-made hair masks to avoid hassles.
For natural hair masks, you can use eggs, bananas, aloe vera gel, yogurt, flaxseed gel, honey, coconut oil, olive oil, or anything that suits your hair. Now, this is something that most people won’t tell you about but just stop touching your hair every so often! When I stopped touching my face for no reason, I started getting a few to no pimples at all. The same applies to the top of your head. I have an oily scalp and I used to have severe dandruff and scalp acne. But when I stopped touching my hair and my scalp unless I really needed to, all these problems were reduced to half and even less.
So, stop touching your hair and your scalp because it builds tension in your hair strands and causes hair to fall. Touching your scalp often can make your scalp oilier especially if you already have an oily scalp and that can result in dandruff and itchiness.

Previously, I’ve stated how oiling and using a hair mask can help you get healthy, bouncy hair. But if you don’t wash them properly, it’ll be of no good and you’ll start having scalp acne, hair fall, and other hair problems.
These are some of the things to keep in mind about washing your hair.
- Don’t wash your hair every day. You can wash 3 times a week or twice if you have dry hair. For people with oily scalp, washing hair every day can result in producing more oil because your scalp gets stripped of the moisture it needs while washing your hair. So, it should be no more than 3-2 times a week.
- Don’t scratch your scalp rather use your fingertips to massage your scalp gently.
- Use SLS and Paraben-free Sulfur is the reason why your hair becomes so rough and dry after shampooing. So, to retain the natural moisture of your hair, make sure to use a sulfate-free shampoo.
- Rinse your hair with lukewarm water. It’ll help cleanse your scalp even better
- Start applying your conditioner from mid-length to the ends of it and leave it for 5 minutes. You can use your fingers to detangle your hair while applying the conditioner. Make sure to rinse the conditioner with cold water.
- Dry your hair with a soft cotton towel - look for a soft Turkish towel, they're great! - or cotton t-shirt! The material is gentle and it worked great for my hair. I’m so glad I started doing it ‘cause it makes my hair a lot less frizzy.
- And finally, don’t comb your hair just after washing it. It can make your roots weak and cause hair-fall.
7. Avoid harsh chemicals as much as you can
The more you’ll avoid harsh chemicals and toxic ingredients the healthier your hair will be. Try to avoid Sulfur, Paraben, Triclosan, Alcohol, Formaldehyde, and some other toxic chemicals as they can cause various hair problems from skin irritation to drying out your hair too much.
Again, hair treatments can be very worthwhile but their long-term effects can severely damage your hair. For instance, they can damage your hair follicles and cause hair breakage and excessive hair fall. Look for natural hair treatments!
8. Avoid over styling and overheating your hair
This is something that entirely ruined my hair and I promised myself never to make the same mistake ever again. Excessive heating can permanently damage your hair. Even if you don’t see any side effects now, after too many sessions you may start regretting it.
It’s safe to use a heat protectant spray if you really have to use hair-styling tools. If you want to use a hair straightener, wait until your hair is at least 80% dry and use it at a low to medium temperature. Try air drying your hair as blow-drying can cause hair breakage and dry out your hair. I stopped blow-drying my hair a few years ago and I’m so glad I did ‘cause my hair is much less frizzy and less prone to breakage.

Some simple habits before going to bed can save your hair from getting damaged and keep your hair healthy. For instance,
- You should never go to bed with wet hair. I used to do this when I used to be too tired and didn’t realize the harm it was causing my hair until it was too late. So, make sure to dry your hair before going to bed if it’s wet.
- Loosely braiding your hair can save your hair from unwanted frizz. I started doing this a couple of months ago and when I wake up my hair is a lot less frizzy than it would have been if I kept it untied. But remember, you have to braid it as loosely as possible.
- Another thing you can do is switching to a silk pillowcase. It can prove to be a lot gentler on hair than regular pillowcases.
